Post-doctoral Training
The Columbia Center for Injury Science and Prevention is home to a 2-year interdisciplinary postdoctoral fellowship training program. In addition to receiving active mentorship, resources, and support from the CCISP, incoming postdoctoral fellows also have the opportunity to collaborate with other postdoctoral fellows across the University. This postdoc structure allows for new collaborations and the use of shared resources, thus creating new scientific synergies as our postdocs become independent injury scientists and launch their own lines of inquiry. Our mentorship priorities for our CCISP postdoctoral fellows are centered on fostering their career development and eventual faculty placement. Please also see below (under "Milestones") for additional details on our postdoctoral program's structure and expectations.
Milestones
Milestones will be used to determine each post-doctoral fellow’s progress and suitability to enter the second year of their fellowship and ultimately their completion of the fellowship and entry into the job market. Postdocs can follow one of two semi-flexible pathways with varied milestones.
Option 1
YEAR 1: 2-3 submitted peer-reviewed manuscripts + 1 fully prepared grant application (an R or K award, or similar).
YEAR 2: 3-5 submitted peer-reviewed manuscripts +1 additional grant specific aims page.
Option 2
YEAR 1: 3-5 submitted peer-reviewed manuscripts + 2 grant specific aims pages.
YEAR 2: 2-3 submitted peer-reviewed manuscripts + 1 fully prepared grant application (an R or K award, or similar).
Post-doctoral fellows will be required to declare their entry into one of these two options when they begin their post-doctoral training in Year 1. Their chosen option and its milestones will then be a regular source of face-to-face discussion and monitoring for the fellow and their mentors.
